That was 23 years ago so irrelevant now and we all know the stories but the fact you hold both yet don't trust BHP is unusual. You should be happy even if they paid top dollar as any premium is chicken feed to them and the synergies and huge upside must surely be a win win for your BHP holding as well.I also think the market for BHP will react positively once a deal is finalised. Quite a few commentators are liking this move by BHP.
The only thing I wonder is whether Andrew Cole will be asked to stay on as part of the deal as I think they need his sharp efficient mindset.
