Religion being a 'truth' would be using that term in its loosest sense - i.e. as a belief accepted as true - but only accepted by the believers and certainly not verifiable objectively. In quoting Einstein's saying are you perhaps conflating that he saw there to be any 'truth' in religion? He didn't - he saw it for what it is - childish superstition. But he did appreciate the awe and wonder associated with the religious viewpoint that he felt helped propel science forward as it sought answers to the questions that essentially created a 'need' for religion in the first place.
