Why Kavanaugh should have been confirmed even if guilty

Now the main circus act has come to a close (I am sure it will bubble along for sometime) I wanted to argue why I thought BK should have been confirmed even if he was actually guilty of attempted rape (all the evidence to date suggests he is innocent, but that is not the point of this argument).

The reason why is purely practical - if BK could have been blocked on the grounds of an unsubstianted and unverifiable claim of wrong doing then anyone can be blocked from any position. No judge or politician can stand for any office if an accusation like CBF made is sufficient to disqualify them. If this approach had worked then all it would take is for some politically committed person to step into the limelight and claim Person X did "bad thing" Y at some point in the past and Person X would then be disqualified. The end result of such a system would be chaos as both sides descended into the equivalent of a blood vendetta.
