The Thomas thing is interesting. He was a black conservative so the left didn't really know how to handle it.
This was a very deft nomination politically.
I do not think Thimas was especially qualified, but the race thing made it complicated and awkward for the Dems to vote against him.
Taking a page out that playbook, the best thing Trump could do on the next appointment would be to nominate a black or latino female conservative judge, if such a thing exists.
