For more than a year I've been unable to run a complete defrag program on my pc. I thought it was a glitch in my pc, possibly from running 2 hard drives.
After reading advice in a Brisbane paper, I discovered the problem was not rare with computers running Windows 98.
To overcome it, you turn everything off, then turn your pc on and start hitting the F8 key (repeatedly). Suddenly, you are able to switch your pc to the "Safe Mode". You then run the defrag program without trouble.
When it's finished, simply restart your computer and everything is back to normal.

I've used it for the defrag problem and use Spybot and Kerio firewall as a result of reading at the site.
