However I will say this that John Howard changed our law when he was in power and now the ADF has the legal responsibility in times of uprising to control the population and that law now extends to firing on Australian Citizens.
Here is part of the reason martial law has little chance of succeeding in the U.S. With 300,000,000 or so people and probably nearly twice that many guns with at least 30% being military assault rifles the military will have a hard time controlling them. Check this article below.
WILD WILD WEST or at least now in DC and New Orleans it is legal to carry hand guns in public. In New Orleans you can carry any weapon including assault rifles in public slung over your shoulder in the supermarket. Saw a docco on it last week.
Federal judge rules DC ban on handguns unconstitutional

(Reuters) - A federal judge on Saturday overturned Washington D.C.'s ban on carrying handguns outside the home, saying it was unconstitutional.
"There is no longer any basis on which this Court can conclude that the District of Columbia's total ban on the public carrying of ready-to-use handguns outside the home is constitutional under any level of scrutiny," Judge Frederick Scullin said in an opinion.
