Someone said I am ignorant re lithium batteries. Let's see.
To be able to smooth out irregularities of wind/solar generation across Europe and the US we would need to manufacture, recycle and dispose of many millions of batteries each year.
I can't believe conservationists and anti-polutionists would even contemplate such an outrageous idea. I would rather CO2 as a pollutant than all the exotic, poisonous materials used in batteries.
ps. Where would the power needed to make all these batteries come from? You can't have plants sit idle in the dark waiting for the wind to come up again.
I think you alarmists are deliberately ignoring the truth of the necessity to have on-demand, reliable base-load power. You don't NEED batteries, we didn't have them before and the system worked well and costs [in steady dollars] were coming down. Then Al Gore came along and stuffed it all up.
