Sooner or later, every good PM has to walk out into the middle of the road and take on a big, ugly issue and somehow cut through to the heart of it and connect viscerally with the bulk of the mainstream population. Hawke did it, Keating did it, Howard did it and I would argue Abbott did it. Rudd probably did it and I would argue Gillard and Turnbull didn't. Morrison has missed an opportunity to walk into this sexual assault, lions den and might regret it come election time.
