Why would Russia strike first? It's only hope of winning would be to strike first, simple as that. The U.S. war machine is superior to Russia.
When threatening war would result in mutually assured destruction, would you threaten Russia with war when you knew their only possible response, apart from surrender would be first nuclear strike?
