I cant believe most of these posts are serious.

You are worried that people are getting laid off in the middle of a merger - does anyone actually work or have exposure to the corporate world?

This is a natural part of bringing two companies together and guess what, when 2 people are doing the same job, the better person keeps their job and the other one is moved on.

Anyone who works at a large organisation knows they are a number and they need to pull their weight accordingly.

I for one am glad that this merger will bring efficiencies in staffing as it can be very very difficult for a high growth company to have staffing to keep up with their expansion - its the biggest risk most companies have so if the merger helps them have stable, experiences staff to manage the growth, its all the better for the company in the long run.
