If you are an institutional shorter, you have SO many shares at your disposal you can be as illogical as you like, for as long as you like. If you need the price to drop... just sell more...until YOU are ready, not the market, to release the price. If you work in co-operation with other large shorters you can push the market where you want. Shorter know there is upward SP pressure, so it guarantees them direction. It is when you don't know which way it will move that you have risk. How many of the shorter's shares are being sold to themselves. Net result SP drop, shake out the worried and pick up some more.
