But generally the spirometer is still only used in a medical environment. It isn't really being marketed for home consumer at this stage.
Nathan that link from southoz: http://sh.rice.edu/resources/mobileSpiro.pdf appears to idnicate that a home-consumer based device is being developed. It appears the biggest issue is the identification of correct usage ie full exhalation etc . They have implemented a strategy to identify bad instances of usage. Cost to produce the hardware is $100. Accuracy of device the same as commercially available devices. It seems to be a scientific paper. Maybe they are looking for a partner?
