I remember how I too was taught all this stuff from our very naive science teacher in the early 70's. He was almost breathless in his excitement at the Club of Rome predictions(they are experts you know lol) and that we would run out of oil, coal, iron etc by the late 80's.His excitement I see now was due to being in on the "knowledge" of something big that the ignorant plebs couldn't believe,which made him feel special and being part of something bigger than himself. All a bit like the AGW cult which is the Club of Rome/neo Malthusian/ quasi apocalypse's successor.
