I joined with full knowledge of that very outcome and was prepared to do whatever I was called upon to do, as were all the great people I served alongside. Thankfully I was never called to a war or anything like it, whereas some of my mates were. As was their mindset they did so as ordered and expected to without a second thought.
As for being an "asset", if that be the case I am far better off here teaching skills to people that both need it and genuinely want to lear. So that they may better themselves and become an asset to there country.here I am rewarded financially and personally watching these keen people soak up knowledge and develop. Nor do I get treated as a cash cow for govt and under achievers to bleed off, I get treated with respect for my achievements.
I expect nothing but what I can produce myself and happily pay my own way as needed.
