"US and Japan have very different economies." Really?
Both have Govt debt/GDP over 100%. Both have ZIRP. Both have banks carrying bad loans. Both are dependent on imported energy. Both have declining manufacturing sectors. Both have crashing property markets. Both governments are now borrowing half their spending.
Even if what you say is true, their economic problems are very similar.
