I agree that single parents should have to do job training to prepare them for work and given every assistance to do so.
However, simply reducing their income by $120 a week will not enable or even incentivize single mothers to go to work when their youngest turns 8. They will not be able to get work between 9 and 3! Probably many won't be able to get work at all.
Hence all it means is that the family will suffer more than they already do. They don't get enough at the moment to pay the bills.
It was one of the stupidest moves out to create the baby bonus and encourage young, uneducated teenagers to start having babies!! As a consequence we have a larger population of single mothers having had children to different fathers etc etc. Increasing the lower end of the gene pool I might add (not always but often).
So the government created this problem, by not introducing the requirement for mums to train when their youngest turns 5 and by giving them big cash incentives to reproduce when they shouldn't have done so. How else would a teenager in St Mary's or Lithgow from a single parent welfare mum get their hands on thousands of dollars? Dumb and dumber policy.
The answer is not to cut their weekly benefits and have the family and innocent children slide further into poverty and homelessness! Brutal and idiotic.
Agree that this govt has wasted money right, left and centre. How about the school halls and the computer netbooks for students - useless machines that the kids break within 6 months and very few ever use!!!! I hate this government!
