What really irritates me is that we have gone backwards to the 1970's view of state control of telecoms. It has been shown time and again that what builds good networks is deregulation, not monopolies. Canada has a first rate telecoms system and competition open. Australia has three (iinet being the third biggest) suppliers and Telstra still having the dominant price setting status.
NBN is a great idea but the government should never have been involved in it. Work with telstra, sure. Subside the uneconomic bits (country), sure. Encourage competition, sure.
But create another government owned monopoly and lock Telstra and Optus into a dont-say-bad-things-and-we-will-give-you-a-bribe deal, pathetic.
Conroy is a total idiot and the sooner he is given the boot, the better for Australia.
