Sorry - that was not meant to be facetious - however the point I am trying to make is that not all real estate world wide is collapsing. Switzerland is in dangerous territory with rising prices it is felt and has certain dynamics at play that can be construed as similar to ours. Saying the USA is what we have to be compared to is as random as comparing to Switzerland. They are a sought after destination whose currency has escalated, rich migrants buying up , not unlike here in a number of ways. Furthermore the basket cases capture the news and therefore we arbitrarily compare and such comparisons can and often are odious. We have a unique set of circumstances, govt policies, migration intake etc etc that is unique to Oz and Oz alone.
