Kyrgyz parliamentary committee recommends suspension of Kentor Gold's license at Andash deposit over conflict with local population
Bishkek (AKIpress) - The parliamentary committee for development of economic sectors on Tuesday made the decision to suspend the license of the Kentor Gold, which develops the Andash deposit, until resolution of the conflict with local population. The parliamentary committee discussed the parliamentary resolution of 24 June 2011 on Andash deposit.

The Kyrgyz government permits international environmental review at the deposit, Economy Minister Temir Sariev said. If the company reaches agreement with local population after the review, it will be able to continue development of the deposit, he said.

The company may file a lawsuit in case of recall of the license, Minister Sariev explained.

The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan considered the draft of resolution on June 24, 2011, which ordered suspension of work at Andash gold deposit and annulment of all permits for the deposit development.

The parliamentary committee for fuel and energy complex and subsoil use considered the appeal of residents of Kopurobazar village, Talas district, and talked with the protesters who demanded to stop development of the Andash gold deposit on February 1, 2011. The decision was made to create a working group to check the appeal of local community members. The working group visited the site to become familiarized with the situation on the ground.
