Bossdog,
Unions are not the cause of the industrial climate at QAN at the moment, management is. Unions were happy to settle for 3%.
FYI, QAN has had unions since not long after its inception. Qantas has had many years of working with unions in harmony, due to the fact that ex CEO's did not have the same disdain/lack of respect for QAN workers as Jimmy "Bow- tie", Geoff Dixon and Alan Joyce.
Things have gone downhill industrially since John Ward left the company and there has not been anyone since then that has tried to cooperate with the staff in an industrial sense. It has been slash and burn ever since. Shame John Borghetti did not get the top job at QAN instead of Joyce. If not for Dixon and Clifford, QAN may very well have been prospering big time now under JB. Instead, we are scratching for the life rafts and about to exit a ditched aeroplane into a deep, dark, shark infested ocean.
Sub $1 today sadly.
