    Mo,
Your post forgets that it is way past the simplicities you state in your post, fundamentally the real economy is broken, broken by compliance laws, unbalanced industrial relations laws bought down by Julia Gillard.
This all started when the pendulum swung too far in favor of unions, strangling compliance laws and unfair dismisal laws that left small businesses struggling.
Your quote on food businesses shows you dont have a clue, small food businesses are suffering every bit as much as any business, just pop your head in and ask a cafe owner next time your having a coffee, I think you will find you may have to rethink your ideas.
The shift in the industrial landscape has seen a massive shift to casual employees, to 2 million in fact, a family with a casual income can not contribute as much as a family that has income from a permanently employed member.
This is seeing a fundamental change in the employment landscape that will continue to have severe ramifications to the small businesses in this country, which is usually regarded as "The real economy" the businesses that employ the people in the cities and suburbs in all our major cities and rural towns, not a hole in the ground on h middle of the outback,
