It did seem like a good idea at the time with oil prices still looking good to justify open-cut CTL. Unlike UCG-GTL the tech is proven and has been for decades, too.
I'm just annoyed (but not really surprised) that they never told us about Clinton not being viable due to salt until it was too late for us retail investors to get out.
All they said was they were progressing with studies on dealing with salt - made it sound like a minor technical issue that needed ironing out.
Wasn't until much later they finally fessed up that it had sunk the project.
The company is so heavily diluted now that trying to find a replacement for Clinton seems pointless. Better to put this terminally ill dog out of its misery.
CTL will probably become a major feature of our landscape as cheap oil is exhausted because CTL can roughly compete with shale oil on a cost basis. It will come - but not from this company.
