The banks are not as conniving as we think. They are just manned by thick and incompetent management who implement policies without thinking of the consequences. Outsource writing of mortgages to increase profits and whammo look at the results. Much like Qantas outsourcing safety maintenance offshore - no control.
Then we have the chief banker run the economy - aaarrrggghhh!
