There are at least two dimensions involved when 'placing' people on spectrums.
For politicians one is economic, the other social.
Adolf Hitler rates as a bit to the right of centre as an economist but at the extreme end [authoritarian - fascist] on the social dimension.
In contrast Nelson Mandela rates well to the left on economics & towards the bottom of the social scale [ libertarian].
Kevin Rudd, John Howard, Labor & Liberal rate as mildly right wing & as mildly authoritarian.
