To most of us the issue is not about what you wrote - it's much simpler. How do we prevent refugees from drowning in large numbers?
Most understand that refugees are a a reality and that they aren't "illegal" and that we need to take them in. Most are OK with the 15k that we take and would be OK with raising that number. We just don't want them coming by boat and drowning kids or adults.
The rest is a diversion. Ignore the ignorant.
