VERY well articulated. I strongly encourage posters here to thumbs this one up.

This is a responsible post. It doesn't cast blame. It does not call for heads to roll. It is a measured and mature response to a situation that needs to be addressed in a mature and professional way.

It calls for accountability, questions to be answered - and it calls for action.

It sets the agenda to the key issues and failings here.

The MD and PLV management team need to heed these questions if they truly want to be respected and acknowledged as being the trusted and capable management crew to move from here.

Transparency and ethics (and importantly, the perception of those things) are all important. No amount of changing focus, business partners, projects or conditions will smooth over that.

Too much focus has been on elements/achievements that have not added REAL shareholder value.
Yes awards are good. They should be celebrated. But for who and for what purpose?

Drilling platforms? They will not add shareholder value. The value there is perhaps the projection of success for the company - not adding real value for shareholders.

Environmental awards? Fantastic! But do, or have they added real VALUE to Pluton?

The focus 'away from' Irvine has been disconcerting - as evidenced here by MANY shareholders...including myself.

Is the company listening? Are they capable of listening? Are they able to respond in a manner that is acceptable and truly trusted?

These are 'key' questions for true professionals to heed.

Unfortunately at times critical and constructive 'feedback' here has been interpreted WRONGLY as undermining the company and management by some...at times it has been countered aggressively.

That response is not a professional response. It is a response from those who are perhaps not professionally developed enough to respond confidently with action, leadership and results.

One of the incredible opportunities PLV have had and continue to have..

    IS THIS FORUM!

The MD saw that opportunity years ago.

A mindshift and mindset is required here. Are management adding value or taking it away?
Are they listening or are they reacting?
Are they open to feedback or are they ignoring it?
Are they looking to 'meaningfully' engage with shareholders?

This forum brings up questions. Smart businesses know that questions leave hints and that by listening to them and heeding them they get a VERY good perception and understanding of their market.

Good operators don't go to a sample group and manipulate the responses - that is ultimately counter productive.

They listen. They respond. They act accordingly. They then apply that - take action and add value.

Businesses PAY to get an understanding of their customers and the market perception. Many pay a lot of money to do it.

Hotcopper delivers that daily in bucket loads.....AT NO COST!!!

A little story (well my stories are never little but anyway;)

The Geelong AFL team was in crisis in 2006. Bomber Thompson was lauded as a lousy coach by many, and many wanted to 'blame' him for the woes of the club. He had been there 5 or 6 years and although there were signs, and developments along the way, they werent getting the necessary results.

    What happened?

A massive review of THE COMPANY. EVERYONE was questioned. ACCOUNTABILITY was the catch cry. Nobody avoided the review.

    The result?

Bomber didn't lose his job. He acknowledged his shortcomings and the areas he needed to develop. He went on to win 2 out of 3 premierships. He left and had helped to set up the structures for the next guy to get another one.

    How? Culture, expectation and excellence.

Geelong is now acknowledged as one of the greatest teams (clubs/organisations) in AFL history.

I see parallels to PLV in that and right now The MD and the team have an opportunity..if they are good enough.. to lead this company onto the next stage.

The weeks ahead will be defining moments. Some might see them as 'opportunities'

    As the old adage goes:

"Circumstances do not make a man - they reveal him"

The thread here: 'In Tony We Trust' speaks volumes of the relationships/work/effort the MD has built here over years. Pioneering stuff really as i've stated before.

'In PLV We Trust' is where we need to be headed....and Tony if he is good enough, will obviously be a big part of that.
