re: Ann: Media Coverage Concerning RRP for th... I'm fairly certain the ACCC don't dish out fines based on director's comments. It would have to be apparent in the accounting that the company was intentionally misleading the customers. If an individual Brumby's baker raises the price by 5% and state that this raise is purely because of the Carbon tax and then get audited by ACCC who find this misleading, they can be fined.

Feedback from comments in most of the sites I read through noted mostly sympathy towards Brumby's which they see as a victim poster-child from the introduction of the carbon tax trying to be silenced by an Gestapo government. Ofcourse, being people who comment on news websites, they are mostly missing the point. A Brumby's store owner could take this advice to mean that the full 5% increase should be specifically blamed on the carbon tax.

And yes, an apology does help because the price rise hasn't taken place now. It works to show that management have accepted the mistake and will ensure that the carbon tax is not used as a scapegoat for a price hike which is caused by a number of factors. (Hopefully bigger dividends is one of them.)
