A tie in with the existing BM coal mine has always been an obvious part of the exergen/mnm plan EB.

That was confirmed by all this fiddly infill tenement work around maddingley:

    'ASX Release 18 April 2011

    Bacchus Marsh Tenements Granted.
Mantle Mining Corporation Limited (ASX: MNM) Mantle, is pleased advise that two additional Exploration Tenements have been granted at the Company’s Bacchus Marsh Coal Project in Victoria.
    Highlights:

ELs 5323, 5324 and 5325 are infill areas between the Maddingley Coal Mine (MIN 4701) and Mantle’s surrounding EL 5294 (Figure 1).'

The only possible reason MNM would have gone to this expense with hundreds of other sq km at their disposal at BM is if the infill tenements right to the border of Maddingley were required so they could start digging at Maddingley and radiate outwards (to the south and east judging by the drill hole locations).

If not for those tenements the longwalls would have to stop at the Maddingley gate, and be restarted a few kilometeres away, which would be no fun.

But any tie in with Maddingley has NOT been confirmed to the market.

My suspicion is that the Ballarat Courier may have a bit of an 'exclusive' on those talks, and have drafted their poll question on that basis.

What are the chances exergen plans to buy Maddingley outright? That is exactly the kind of rumour a small town paper would hear about from local real estate types.

    Interesting.
