1: Pirates? And I mean contract in some real pirates that sink these ships to the bottom of the ocean with no regard to the women and children on board. Sooner or later the word will get out after countless inocent lives are lost.
Ok, that may be a little extreme, but sadly many of these boat people are prepared to die so we'll only loook like brutal savages.
2: Bring back Made IN AUSTRALIA. Lets bring back manufactured goods and services to our nation using new refugees as cheap (maybe free) labor. That's right! Rather than sit in a detention center wasting our $ lets put you to work on various projects depending on your skills and attitude with a reward to grant you a VISA once you have completed your contract. Of course after 5 years before being given your VISA you must be able to sting a few aussie phrases together.
I could think of a few projects we could use cheap labor for. A new state to state high speed rail way system, a few decent sweat shops to compete against our Chinese friends. Does this seem a little extreme? If I was a refugee i'd prefer to be put to work for X ammount of time knowing there was a chance to have a normal life. Beats being in a prison for that time.
Anyways, I feel the frustrations from boths sides. At the end of the day people are going to come here no matter what, the real question is what do we do when they arrive because that will be our only solution.
Do we give them a chance to work their way to freedom or lock them up at our own expense and continue this madness?
