Afghanistan is not heavily censored in the news, when the Media were their with us they were filming everything we did for the short time they were their.
The Media cannot just get in a 4wd and go off driving around Afghanistan interviewing people, They would either get blown up by an IED or the Taliban would capture them and kill them. It is such a dangerous place if you are a white person over their. They have rival militia and tribal warlords in all the valleys, some of them hate the taliban and band together, if the taliban come into their village they fight the taliban.
To get an idea of the lawlessness over their one time a villager came up to us asking for help because some "Bandits" had come to the village at night and murdered a family and taken all their possessions of value..their was no police station for 40 km from this particular village. The police are not useless but not far from it, most of them smoke opium at their outposts and don't know whats going on.
From my experiences i believe we are their stopping the training of politically motivated groups like the Taliban and al-Qaeda. Think about what would happen if we just let them train and grow their numbers.. more attacks more terror
If something did happen in Australia to your loved ones Im sure all the keyboard warriors that disagree with the war would have a far different view. They would be the first ones to be asking for the Defence Force to do something about terrorism.
If you disagree with the war being fought so far away, Imagine it being fought in Australia, you want to go shopping but cant drive because the road has IED's scattered on it. Its all good not wanting war when you live in a safe country. The reason Australia is "safe" is because we took the fight to them. the war makes Australia safe.
