Kranky ,
I did run over that list and this is what I got afew weeks ago
Evergreen Energy inc's k-fuel - bust. The company was notified by its partner in a joint venture in China that both had to raise from $40 million to $50 million for design and construction of a so-called K-Fuel facility in China to meet an agreement signed by the Chinese parter with a coal mining company. This product wasn't exportable ; it didn't get near coldry in moisture extraction either.
WTA technology by German company RWE power who are Germanys biggest power producer; The product isn't marked as exportable ; it's straight boiler. It requires more energy to produce and it doesn't look to extract the same amount of moisture as coldry; it doesn't give a demineralises water byproduct either.
White energy's BCB process; this one seems to extract as much moisture as Coldry, it has no impact on the reduction of C02 since The Energy source for drying is actually coal combustion. It uses quite a bit of energy to carry out the process; so the cost would be greater than that of coldry and the greenies wouldn't be in the same room as it.No clean water output either. These have a Commerical scale plant 1 million tonne per annum; but it hasn't exceeded 30% of its capacity
Kobe steel Has been developing UBC technology for quite some time now, it involves mixing oil with coal under high pressures , so you can imagine it doesn't help the atmosphere to much; and the end product will cost a wack more than coldry. They have a pilot plant.
Metro coal australia's drying process like the others requires high pressures and temperatures; only reduces co2 by about 15%, doesn't quite get down to the coldry moisture reduction either. Ain't exportable either.....They actually abandoned the pilot plant
all of he above were / are listed companies and all the above would have been reported
Exergen energy; non listed company. Claim they can extract more moisture than coldry on wiki, But on an Exergen brochure it doesn't quite say that and from what I remember reading before Exergen did its report based on brown coal with its moisture connect been in around the 60-65% mark whilst ECTs was done at the typical 70% moisture content which is common to the la trobe valley ; It requires heat of up to 300 degrees and 100 bar pressure to produce its product but yet they claim on wiki (which much of can be taken with a grain of salt) that it can match coldry on the co2 reduction area ( that logically doesn't make sense , someone maybe able to explain that one) . The product is exportable . Clean water is also claimed to be the only waste product
They have a pilot plant which seemed to be a 5 tonner which was recently televised with a plan to beef it up to 20 tonner, hardly a commercial plant . Apperantly they are 3-5 years away. Seems like a good process; it would be good to get a side by side comparison to iron some figures out; it doesn't quite seem to stack up. Funding of a full scale 1 or 2 million tonne pilot plant may be an issue. They will have to wear the short skirt and stick the knee out. ECT already seems to be playing around in the bed.
