I am still considering this idea... with the following important points
to accommodate older family members so I can look after them....
(there are only two left at this point in time)
I am not proposing to rent it out, but that is open to future changes in attitude and future circumstances
the house I am proposing to be the anchor property is in NSW NSW appears to have easy and relaxed laws in relation to granny flats...well last time I looked they did
(that idea was based on the former NSW govnuts attitude to the housing shortage, and the limited public housing availablity situation for the aged in society)
the house is heritage listed, and there are humungeous restrictions on what I can do as far as extensions go, also impacted by the new green laws and crap
the way around the heritage listed problem can be partially overcome, with a granny flat
I had a builder draw up plans, with an estimated cost of $100,000... that was back in around 2007 it was going to match the style of the existing house, ie a Californian Bungalow it would be aesthetically appealing....in style with the existing house... it could be, and was designed to join the main house... it would become a 'teenagers retreat' if no elderly people required it.. it would add huge value to the property, in the future there is no doubt about that future potential...as a share house... no slums, nor devaluation in this project or equation
