The wife and I are coming back home to OZ for a holiday (from Japan) and we are aiming for Melbourne, our first time too!
I, as a surfer, wish to pop into Torquay and have a look around but the wife wants to drive along much of The Great Ocean Road. We will be based in Melbourne CBD somewhere so our plan is to hire a car for 24 hours, wake up kind of early and go driving for most of the day.
With that in mind, I have two questions:
1) Is what I have above quite doable in one day, Torquay + The Great Ocean Road and back to our hotel by sunset/night fall?
2) In regards to traffic getting out of Melbourne and other areas along the way, should we do it on a weekday (most probably Friday) or would a weekend day be OK?
