    I have heard that if you tape up the exhaust, there is a good chance carbon monoxide could get him later on.

    If you jam a rag up exhaust pipe tight and out of view, the car will not start, will not damage motor and will need a smart mechanic to find problem.

    Most likely will have to be towed away.

    Talking from experience, we had a a car decades ago in our workshop with such a problem. Many mechanics were stumped over it, until someone looked up exhaust pipe.

    If exhaust gases can't get out of cylinders, then air (oxygen) can't get in to create combustion.

    Once again, will not damage motor, just won't go.

    More importantly will not gas driver with carbon monoxide.
