Stem cell treatment set to put Hay List back on course
One of the fastest racehorses on the planet could be back in business thanks to breakthrough stem cell treatment.

Australian gelding Hay List fractured his left foreleg in April when being treated for colic and there had been serious concerns his glittering career was over.

However, thanks to animal health care provider TUTAVet, the six year-old sprinter – which has won AUS$2.5m in prize money – could be back in action next year.

TUTAVet was the first company to perform animal stem cell therapy in the UK and its Australian associate, MediVet Australia, used liposuction to extract fat containing dormant cells from around the horse’s tail.

MediVet then activated the cells using its dual-activating process involving platelet-rich plasma and LED light technology. These cells were then injected into the damaged area to repair the damaged leg.

TUTAVet business manager Jane Borg said: “This procedure gives TUTAVet added visibility in an important market, and it further validates the success of this unique technology.”

The TUTAVet stem-cell technology is used to treat animal diseases including degenerative joint disease, arthritis, and tendon and ligament damage and is available to veterinarians throughout the UK and Ireland.
