I hope at the end of all this, Australians come to realise the importance of electing people with the competence to run the country. The Hawke, Keating and Howard governments were all competent, and by and large governed well. The Rudd and Gilard governments have been an outright abomination, particularly the Gillard government.
There is just an outright deficiency of competent people currently in the ALP. In future they will have to extend beyond union patronage - the gene pool is just too narrow these days.
