School halls with no fire escapes? Can you give percentages please of these. According to independent reports the BER was a resounding success and I take offence to it simply being called a 'school halls programme'.
I have been to many schools and have actually not seen a school hall built but if needed by a school would certainly not see a problem if money had been spent on this. For your information the BER money was not limited to school halls. Schools were in fact able to spend on what they thought would improve the quality of the learning environment for the children. One my local schools built a green room for gardening, outdoor learning room with kitchen facilities- that is used as a 'living classroom' where the children learn about nature, conduct science experiments & cook. Another school built a large COLA (covered outdoor learning area) so they had a large area to play when it rains as well as smartening up some of the old shoddy buildings. At my daughters school the money was spent on 3 beautiful new classrooms with adjoining computer rooms to replace the hot, small, old run-down demountables. In my view the BER was a resounding success with much needed new facilities built and upgrades done. You actually think spending this money on our children and their learning environment is a waste?
Wonder how much money was spent looking for weapons of mass destruction??? Now that was a waste!!!
