and one in:
New Zealand Marsden Point Oil Refinery (NZRC), 96,000 bbl/d (15,300 m3/d]
Cooper Basin oil is piped south to Port Bonython at the head of the Spencer Gulf then shipped or trucked to one of these above I presume or maybe even some shipments to the NZ refinery who knows? depending on price offered for this lovely sweet crude with only .02 [%wgt] Sulphur content?
SANTOS Facility Details
The Cooper Basin contains approximately 190 gas fields and 115 oil fields currently on production. These fields contain approximately 820 producing gas wells and more than 400 producing oil wells which feed into production facilities at Moomba in South Australia and Ballera in Queensland through approximately 5,600 kilometres of pipelines and flowlines via 15 major satellite facilities incorporating field boost compression (65 satellite compressors, 15 nodal compressors).
The Moomba facility also incorporates substantial underground storage for processed sales gas and ethane, while Ballera has a smaller underground storage system for processed sales gas.
Natural gas liquids are recovered via a refrigeration process in the Moomba plant and sent together with stabilised crude oil and condensate via pipeline to Port Bonython near Whyalla, South Australia.
Ethane is sent to Qenos in Sydney via a dedicated pipeline. Sales gas is sent to Adelaide and Sydney via pipelines from Moomba and sales gas is sent to Mt Isa and to Brisbane via pipeline.
Facility Details
The Port Bonython hydrocarbon processing plant is named after Santos’ founding Chairman, Mr John Bonython AO.
The facility accepts liquid hydrocarbons in a mixed stream of products sent from Moomba via a 659 kilometre 355 millimetre diameter pipeline. The processing facility receives a mixture of condensate, crude oil, propane and butane which is processed in distillation towers and molecular sieves to produce various products.
These products, such as naphtha, crude oil, propane and butane, are stored in large tanks before being shipped to customers.
Port Bonython incorporates a 2.4 kilometre jetty for loading of tankers as well as road tanker loading facilities. Approximately 30 ships per year are loaded, with a maximum size tanker of 110,000 tonnes capacity. The majority of LPG produced (approx 70%) is exported via the ship loading facility.
Cooper Basin Crude Oil
Cooper Basin crude is a light, sweet premium crude oil suited to the production of high quality transport fuels. The very low sulphur content of the crude and primary fractions provide high quality blend stocks and intermediates requiring minimal secondary treatment for blending or further processing. Current production of Cooper Basin crude oil is approximately 20,000 barrels per day.
