I don't want this thread to be about race, but more about our living standards (standard of living?). My belief is that we need to make the most of the people who have had the privilege of landing on our soil and, in return, they need to make the most of the wonderful gift given to them and contribute to the community as per the majority.
We are stuck with numerous races and religions, like it or not. So my motto is treat all equally and in doing so you will not get resentment build up in communities where some feel wrongly disadvantaged.
The new workers that are coming here to work and live comparatively substandard are contributing to the economy, contrary to my post. However, that contribution is beneficial to the following -
our grocery chains
our retail groups
the rental industry
real estate
company profits (higher consumerism/lower wages)
banks
retirees - more taxpayers and lower costs for everyday services.
schools
hospitals
The disadvantaged are the young - they face;
lower wages
poorer working conditions
higher rental costs
higher mortgage debt
lower living standards
greater travelling times to work.
Etc
So when we hear the economic benefits of the population boom, the benefits are heavily in favour of the wealthy. The rest can go live under a bridge or in a swag with your wheelie bin for your belongings - provided by comedian Ms J Morris and the like.
