The difference between the immigration period post WW2 and now is great.

Firstly. European immigrants may have lacked language skills but they possessed many others. Some of the great builders in this country are Italians for instance.

Secondly. They did not come here *because* of a social safety net provided by the tax payer which they immediately took up

Thirdly. We had governments that were looking to build the nations public infrastructure and stayed out of the way of entrepeneurs who were looking to do the same. We now have a government who wants a welfare dependent underclass who actively opposes building our nation with taxes, red and green tape, who are decidedly anti business and by extension anti employment.

Fourthly. The European and Asian immigrants post WW2 were either willing to assimilate through shared cultural values, sometimes based upon common religious beliefs, sometimes based upon a strong work ethic, they did not arrive looking to actively discriminate based upon religion or gender.

Fifth, those from Europe left behind economies that were in disarray but they were still nations which shared modern legal systems.

Australia is an ethnically diverse, tolerant society and our sparseness of population as well as our aging demographics gives us ample scope for more people. What is patently wrong though is having an open borders policy who lets in anyone.

Importing people en mass with no language skills, no numeracy, no work skills and religious beliefs that belong in another century is asking for trouble. How can these people be expected to cope in a modern, functioning society, particularly when they don't want to ?

The laws of Islam (for example their active discrimination and victimization of women) are directly in conflict with the standards we try and uphold in our society. Why do we welcome such people if they choose not to adopt our cultural standards? The left is insane on this issue, yet, the left are strangely silent on issues such as Sharia law.

Anyone in any doubt as to the outcomes of large scale refugee intake, should visit the midlands in England, outer suburbs of Paris or Marseille and witness the serious social problems and permanent welfare dependency there. I for one do not want that for this country.

This is not racism, this is common sense. We should not care which country people come from, yet we should care what they can do when they get here. If they are to be a burden of the tax payer then they should not be welcome. If they choose to adopt a fundamental religious belief which breaks our laws they they should not be welcome.

We as a country, need to wake up on these issues or our way of life will be irreperably damaged.
