Why is investing $45k in the SPP 'throwing money away'? What is your evidence for this? Do you have a crystal ball?

It is not at all logical! The combined placement/SPP raised $575,000 (of a mximum $770,000) WITHOUT the director's purchases. The director purchases ($75,000) raised the total to $650,000.
How does the increase from $575,000 to $650,000 'save the share price'?
