Mongo , like you I appreciated the pictures and reminder of the gun shearers of the past like Big Daddy's father. We have benefitted from the wide comb strike and we count our luck that we have shearers at all when many young people earn much more doing much less demanding work elsewhere but I cannot agree with your general comment on imported agricultural products.

I, like all Australian farmers sign a document to disclose all chemical inputs used on the sheep or cattle which we sell whether they are consumed in Australia or overseas. When I shop for food in our supermarkets if I were to purchase food grown overseas, I have no isea about the standards of food production used in other countries. The free market argument would be buyer beware. Productivity can improve with some protection if consumers are informed.
