    re CGT, if he was locking in a loss, then ATO could say it was a wash transaction - no underlying change in ownership of asset etc - why can't this work in reverse where he says that the sale was a mistake because he had forgotten his stop loss and the best evidence of that is that he got straight back in? Just a thought - no idea if it would fly.

    Regarding people complaining about stop losses being triggered, one part of me is sympathetic, another part says you set it at that level, and were willing to dump the stock to protect your own financial interest, which has a flow-on effect of damaging mine when your shares hit the market in a panic dump. You can't have it both ways.

    Also, I wonder whether the big brokers have programs that collate all their clients' stop losses so they know where they are and can shake people out like that? Can that sort of info be shared?
