Transparency makes shareholders feel more comfortable, so short term shares might be discounted due to trust in mgt issues (and there are legal requirements). But lack of transparency doesn't necessarily affect the company's success or long term shareholder value. Apple has been on the low side of transparent reporting but hasn't done too badly.
Still, best to have good mgt and transparency.
