"I'm not interested in paying 7% on a 500k house that's from the 50's... (I'm in one now and would like SOME comforts..)."

    Sorry for the late reply.

Say what??? You want comfort...then don't buy a house from today. That house of the 50s you don't seem to appreciate has hidden quality. I'm not sure if you're in WA. But a double brick and tile home from the 50s would have solid jarah beams. It would have corridors with rooms having separate entry...easy to close off to minimise sound and heating/cooling. I assure you the build quality would put a new home to shame. It would most likely have period features like floor boards, textured walls and ornate cornices. Maybe some 'space' featues with an original light fitting as man was scrabbling to concur space.

Of course...homes like that may have sewerage issues from collapsed clay outlets if trees are close by and the wiring may need to be checked. Other than that...I LOVE the places.

I'm in a late 1990s place and I'll tell you one thing...NEVER again...open plan, floor to wall glass is so yesyerday...the build quality is passe when one who knows what to look for looks carefully...esp...roof frame construction. I will tell you one thing...the only reason your kids would be fighting a heritage listing order with a new house in 50 years time is because anyone is amazed it's still standing...LOL

Each to their own...but comfort is in the eye of the beholder. I'm 46 but an old soul at heart and these modern day dwellings are far less value for money...beauty is skin deep and all that glitters is not gold.

Just my personal opinion on new dwellings...junk.
