Actually latency is a big issue when you ping a website using a wireless connection. When the computer tries to resolve the address it is battling congested wireless channels, other users and the usual dropouts. Wireless is an inferior technology at present.
But how far have we come in ten years? Wireless speeds (unimpeded) are comparable with fibre and this is justngoing to get better.
Server farms and the cloud are replacing PCs and wireless devices are the source of personal traffic. Going forward, data is likely to be stored offsite, with remote access being the key issue.
My guess is that in another ten years wireless will become even more important, and fixed line less so. Most young people dont even havw a fixed line any more.
