164m of that 202m formation was the Plover Sst, which didnt flow due to blockages. They were losing a lot of drilling fluid while drilling & then pumped in LCM to control the mudloss, eventually stopped drilling at 4182m instead of the proposed 4300m. Then they went onto do a openhole flowtest which didnt flow.
The crew then got evac'd frm the rig due to a cyclone.
Came back attempted a second test in a thin 15m Elang sand, had a max flow of ~8 MMcfd (on a 26/64 choke), again attributed to blockages in the wellbore.
Eventually decided to sidetrack & redrill the PLover.
Drilled 3m into the PLover & the borehole caved in. So yeah they left the fish downhole. Tested the carbonate reservoir which was deemed too tight. And so ended the story at H#2.
TO answer yr question, they could have spent another 20mil on another sidetrack, flwd the section etc etc. However this would have been too much for a junior to spend.
FWIW's they managed to log the entire section till 4182m & held on to the lease & they know the PLvr reservoir was gas charged, as was the Elang. Pity neither didnt flow, such is life in the Oil patch.
Hope ENI get that double digit flowrate at HS-1, with the Ensco rig, which had a good result at Maple2 for PTTEP, esp after the ATlas (rig which drilled H#2) went cactus at Montara.
