your are right, but it is much cheaper to sell short via your friendly broker at mates rates than to actually hold the stock (tight up cash) and push the price down through selling of your holding.
a cheaper way to move LYC price usually means more punters jump in / increase in volume.
in addition, LYC shorting allows the large holders/instos to play with the LYC SP anonymously. no need to lodge a change in substantial holding.
hence, a drop in short selling has significance to the price movements of LYC. what about other shorted stocks?
