Your point about substitutes is fair and noteworthy. However, it is far to early in the development stage of these substitutes to give a definitive answer as to wether or not they will make REE applications obsolete.
Sony are developing a Crystal LED TV. OLED TV are far from proving itself as being the next big thing.
