i for one would like to access my super to get into housing. i am currently bearish housing but agree with kincella. i would much rather get into housing, even at historic highs, and stop paying rent than let the dirty government use my super for their own purposes for the next few decades.
housing will probably crash and recover in my lifetime but if i have a house now, then i have one of the basic needs in life and i remove some uncertainty. alternatively, i could trust the government that 9% of my working life's productivity will be sitting there waiting for me when i turn 80 or whatever the retirement age is when i'm there. no thanks. even if my super is there, it will be a hollowed-out shell of its former self, its buying power destroyed by a lifetime of fiat currency devaluation. although i suppose it will have provided plenty of volume for funds to make money in the dark pools and accrue their management fees so not everyone loses (just me, the beneficiary)
